The Day the Earth Stood Still

Once upon a time, when in Spain, I was sitting in my English literature class. We watched a lot of movies in there, and analyzed them, and did presentations on them. This was one of the movies. and I laughed so hard as I watched this. It reminded me of my friend Matt serving in Jamaica, or "Jam-Rock," as he calls it... because I think we have the same sense of humor.

This was the quote from it...

"This Space Man is completely out of this world!"

"-- Well I can tell you that's exactly where it came from."

the ideas that were discussed for this movie were
  • communism
  • WWII
  • the Cold War
  • Astronomy stories
  • Poor special effects that were new at the time
  • human vs. technology
  • Nato
  • Warsaw Pact: Soviet Union
  • Pacifist message?
  • the quote "if politics are violent, it is because humans are violent and we can't change."
  • undercurrent of politics
  • underlining message
  • religious influences (Genesis. Cheated or chosen. Klatuu portrayed as the messiah)
  • panic music that creates tension and mystery
I remember I always wanted to do posts of the movies from that class. I loved them all but one. So maybe you should go rent them if you are bored and feel like a good movie or want a good laugh. Ohh, the science fiction of 1951, I love you.
